New Student F.A.Q.

1. What do I need to attend class?

Students should have all software listed in the relevant class page installed, patched, and open ready to use before class begins. Students who wish to participate through voice should have their headsets connected, tested and ready as well.

2. What is required of me between class sessions?

Most of our courses have homework given between sessions to cement topics covered and to prepare assets that may be used in the following class session. While we don't assign grades here at Xeniversity, full participation and completion in homework assignments is expected of students.

3. Can I record class sessions for reviewing later?

Xeniversity grants registered students the right to record class or class segments for their personal use only. No transference or distribution of these recordings is permitted.

Program/Platform/Hardware Specific F.A.Q.

1. What version of Maya do I need for class?

Currently we recommend students use either Maya 2009 or 2010. Plugin support for 2011 is still weak due to its recent release and students _may_ run into content importation problems with SecondLife.

2. What operating systems do you support?

Students using either OSX or Windows

3.What kind of internet connection do I need?

Our classes are streamed in real-time at a high fidelity (1280x800) and are fairly bandwidth intensive. Students will need a high-speed (5mb/s or higher) internet connection. We highly recommend against attending class using a wireless connections as the video can frequently de-sync as the connection fluctuates.

4. What kind of hardware do I need?

Having content creation apps, our class window, as well as a development app (SL/Unity3d) open at once can be fairly intensive. As such we recommend that students are one a 64-OS with at least 4 gigabytes of ram with a discrete graphics card. Students on an older OS (windows xp) with only 2 gigabytes of ram can still attend, but should be aware that they will be frequently maxing their system out, and should be prepared accordingly.

Class Registration and Refund Policy

1. What types of payment do you accept for class registration?

For all Second Life courses payment is taken exclusively in linden dollars at the in-world registration vendors found on the Xeniversity Sim. Payment for Unity3d courses is done via Paypal through our web based registration form.

2. I've registered for a class but now need to cancel. What is your refund policy?

Students who need to cancel a registration before the course has begun must contact the class's instructor via email immediately. A full refund will be tendered up to a week before the course begins. For the week leading up to the course a 50% refund will be given. Once the course has begun no refund will be tendered except under extenuating circumstances at instructor's discretion.
